We suggest you include emergency supplies of nonperishable prescription medications, medical devices, and official documents. If you or your Scout uses prescription glasses or lenses, include a spare pair in a hard-shelled case.
Parents kitting out their Scout should make sure that they know how to use the supplies and equipment. Most are straightforward and easy to use, but THE SCOUT has some sharp tools and electronics. FAQ
Can a single person carry an extensive camping loadout comfortably?
Yes, a single person can carry a fully packed backpack full of camping. Although it sounds unlikely at first, single camping trips require significantly less gear than group camping trips. Most of the weight in your backpack will be taken up by useful tools, with your tent and sleeping bag lying on top, and that’s not uncomfortable to carry (as long as you take regular breaks).
How many knives and tools do you need on a camping trip?
Ideally, you want to bring at least two knives just in case you lose one during the trip. Two is one, and one is none. Cutting and preparing food will make up the bulk of your knife’s duties, but they also come in handy when catching food, building shelter, and performing other activities. Other tools, such as shovels, axes, and multitools, can come in handy in specific scenarios but aren’t strictly necessary.
Is a sleeping bag necessary for camping?
Although there’s no law enforcing it, it’s highly recommended to bring a sleeping bag on your camping trip, even during the warmer summer temperatures. Temperatures can drop dramatically at night, and aside from warmth, a sleeping bag also ensures comfort!
